Courage in Red
Emergency Response Team
Air Date:
March 16, 2010 9:00pm
Details: Armed stand-offs, hostage situations, major takedowns - these situations call for the specialized skills of the RCMP`s Emergency Response Team (ERT). ERT is a group of highly trained RCMP members capable of employing specialized weapons, equipment, and tactics to resolve extremely high-risk situations. For the first time, cameras have been allowed to record some of these tactical procedures and scenarios. From boarding vessels travelling at high speeds in the Pacific Ocean to the rescue of a hostage in a remote part of Manitoba, this is only a glimpse into what ERT does on a daily basis. The obstacles they face are great, but these members are greater.
Courage In Red gives Canadians the opportunity to meet the men and women of the RCMP and hear their stories. This series comes at a critical and fascinating time in the force`s history: the RCMP is evolving to address the changing nature of crime in the 21st century. Emerging priorities, tactics and technology - from front line policing to covert units - the force is transforming, making an exploration of it all the more interesting.
